Hauppauge, Long Island, New York, February 17, 2018 – Quatela Chimeri PLLC is pleased to announce that Christopher J. Chimeri, a founding partner of the law firm, was selected by Long Island Business News (LIBN) as a 2018 "40 under 40" awardee. The award recognizes and honors outstanding members of Long Island's business community who, through their leadership qualities, have already distinguished themselves in business, government, education and the not-for-profit sector. They have a proven track record of career success, are involved in mentoring and promoting their profession and find time to give back to their communities. LIBN hosted an awards dinner on February 8th at the Crest Hollow Country Club to celebrate those being honored.

In addition to being a cornerstone at the firm by heading its matrimonial and appellate practices, Mr. Chimeri is a well respected Family Law attorney, who has been a pioneer in advocating for the LGBT community and has earned the reputation of fighting for the family law rights of individuals in nontraditional relationships. He is not a newcomer to analyzing and advancing the rights of members of the LGBT community in domestic relations and family court matters through complex litigation and has successfully argued matters in the various level courts in New York State, participating in overturning long-standing precedent to allow the estranged same-sex partner of a biological parent of a child to seek custody and visitation rights. The New York State Court of Appeals recently expanded the definition of a parent in the Domestic Relations Law as a result of one of his many family law appeals in this area. Additionally, Mr. Chimeri, a skilled appellate attorney, is often sought after by fellow colleagues in the matrimonial bar to pursue cases that initially resulted in unfavorable rulings.

Mr. Chimeri also believes greatly in professional development, serving on the board of several professional and academic organizations, and frequently attending and presenting seminars to keep abreast of up-to-the minute changes in the law. He lectures regularly for the Suffolk County Bar Association, Suffolk County Matrimonial Bar Association, Nassau County Bar Association, and New York State Bar Association relating to matters in family and matrimonial litigation. He sits on the Board of Directors of the Suffolk County Matrimonial Bar Association and is both co-founder and Co-Chair of the LGBT Law Committee of the Suffolk County Bar Association.

Mr. Chimeri was recently appointed as a Co-Chair of the LGBTQ Committee of the NYSBA Family Law Section. As an individual who prioritizes giving back to community, Mr. Chimeri looks forward to participating in the EAC Network's Golf For Good fundraising event as their 2018 honoree on Tuesday, May 8th at Meadowbrook Country Club.
