Signs It's Time for a Divorce - Part 2

If your marriage isn't what it used to be, you aren't alone. Many couples struggle to keep their marriages healthy and strong. The best thing you can do is remain aware of what is going on and what it means. Do you know if your marriage is really in trouble? Have you avoided considering taking serious steps? Well, there are some signs that it's time to sit down and consider how to move forward.

In our last blog, we discussed signs that a marriage may be headed for divorce. Today, we have a few more signs that a divorce may be on the horizon.

It's hard to remember when your marriage made you happydreamstime_xxl_53532569

  • Sometimes, marriages break apart quickly and dramatically. However, that isn't usually the case. Instead, marriages break down slowly over time. The process can be so gradual that people don't recognize the warning signs until they're in deep. It's only when people stop and take a step back that they realize "normal life" with their spouse has become something they never wanted it to be.
  • Take a minute to assess what exactly makes up your marriage. Is it constant, new troubles? Does in involve a lot of distance and silence? Do either you or your spouse do anything for the marriage, or do you just coexist? Spouses who simply coexist and fail to be proactive about injecting life and fun into their marriage usually end up drifting apart. When no effort is made to bring good to the marriage, it's not surprising that bad can take over.

Your spouse doesn't want to work on your marriage

  • Without participation from both spouses, marriages can't survive. Maybe your spouse shuts you down every time you try to resolve problems. Maybe you're the one doing the shutting out. Usually, people shut down in marriages because they feel the other spouse is avoiding or ignoring problems. They basically lose hope and don't want to try solving issues any more. Sometimes, this problem can be fixed, but other times, divorce is the only option.

Many times, when marriages are having trouble, sticking with them does more harm than good. However, at Quatela, Hargraves, & Chimeri, we understand that marriage issues take a huge toll on you and your family. We want to be the clarifying presence in what is often a confusing, painful time. We can bring knowledge, experience, and protection. Let us help you today.
