Could separate beds have divorce implications in New York?

When many New York residents think of a married couple living together, they often think of the couple sharing a bed. While the marriage bed may be an important and sacred place to many individuals, some parties may place less significance on having to sleep in the same room. Of course, depending on the circumstances, not sharing a bed could potentially be an indicator that divorce is on the horizon.

Rather than immediately jump to the idea that not sharing a bed means that the marriage is coming to an end, individuals may wish to consider the idea of this action actually helping the marriage. If one spouse has annoying sleep habits, such as snoring or hogging the blankets, it may be in the couple's best interests to no longer share a bed. A good night's sleep could prevent resentment that could lead to unnecessary arguments.

Of course, many couples also no longer sleep together due to tensions stemming from other parts of the relationship. When this is the case, they may be creating distance between themselves that could result in unresolved issues. As a result, problems could continue to grow.

Though sleeping in the same bed may not make or break a marriage, it could have certain implications. Therefore, if New York residents have found themselves sleeping separately more often than not, they may wish to assess their marriage dynamic. If they feel that the reason behind this arrangement lies in an unhappy relationship, they may begin to wonder whether divorce is in their future. Should they feel it could suit their circumstances, they may wish to speak with experienced attorneys to find out more on the process.
