Child custody agreements may help deter unnecessary conflict

Parents can often act out of the ordinary when it comes to handling events that involve their children. Child custody disputes can become especially tense when parents do not get along, and some parents may feel the need to take drastic measures in this type of scenario. However, drastic approaches are not always the best and can sometimes make a situation worse.

New York residents may be interested in a recent custody dispute that took place in another state. Reports indicated that a man apparently had custody of his child when the child's mother -- and the man's ex-girlfriend -- came to take the child. However, the woman did not come alone. She was reportedly accompanied by multiple men who were carrying weapons.

When the child's father did not speak with one of the men, shots were fired. Luckily, no one was injured in the incident. Police were called to the scene, but the ex-girlfriend and men had attempted to flee. At the time of the report, the woman and two men had not been located. It was unclear what type of custody arrangements the child's parents may have had.

Because child custody can be such a touchy subject, having a formal arrangement in place can often help deter unnecessary conflict. If New York parents want to dial down the possibility of such disputes, they may wish to come to formal terms regarding parenting schedules, custody exchanges and other applicable aspects. Speaking with experienced attorneys could help concerned individuals determine their best arrangement options.
