New York parents may consider co-parenting child custody terms

Parents may feel concerned about any decision they have to make for their children. From what they should eat for dinner to medical decisions, worries about the impacts choices can have may plague any New York parent. When the parents have to make child custody decisions while divorcing, they may have more apprehensions due to the long-term effects of these arrangements.

In particular, more individuals are considering co-parenting as one of the arrangements that could work in the best interests of kids. Of course, with this type of agreement, parents will have to maintain the ability to work amicably together. However, recent research suggests that this arrangement may help children suffer fewer negative effects from divorce.

The study involved 1,500 families, and results indicated that children whose parents did not maintain a good co-parenting relationship exhibited behavioral issues, such as aggression and hyperactivity. One mother indicated that she worked to maintain a good relationship with her ex for the sake of her children, though she did feel bitter toward him after the divorce. She feels that even though her teenage children have their own issues to contend with, she does not believe that her divorce has a major impact on the presence of those issues.

While co-parenting could act as a beneficial arrangement, it may not be the best solution for every family. New York parents going through divorce may want to consider their child custody options closely to determine which choice may work best for their families. In order to obtain reliable information, interested parties may want to gain knowledge from local legal resources.
