Parental strife may lead to New York child custody battles

While most New York parents want what is best for their children, reaching that goal does not always come easy. In some cases, outside factors may work against the parents in a way that causes them to not always be able to ensure that their children have the best. In other instances, parents may be fighting against each other, and child custody turmoil could ensue.

It was recently reported that a custody battle in another state saw many conflicts, including the father hiring a private investigator. The case involved the parents of a 4-year-old girl, and at one point during the case, the mother disregarded a court order and hid the child for over a week. The daughter was eventually returned, and the litigation continued.

In addition to such actions, the parents were reportedly making claims against each other. The mother stated that the girl's father had sexually abused her through inappropriate touching, and the father indicated that the mother was manipulating the little girl. The case recently came to a decision, and the jury awarded managing custody to the girl's father.

It is often considered most beneficial for children to remain with both parents or have as much contact with both parents as possible. However, when the environment created in one home could prove unhealthy for the children, New York parents may find themselves fighting to gain child custody in hopes of providing them with the best care. When in this type of situation, individuals may feel uncertain how to move forward. Fortunately, interested parties could enlist legal advocates to help them through the proceedings.
